Pricing guide

How to price spray tans for profit without copying the studio down the street

The right price has to work inside your business. Start with what the service costs, how many appointments you can realistically perform and what the business needs to leave behind.

01

Know the variable cost of one appointment first.

Estimate the costs that rise when you perform another tan, including solution, disposables, prep products and any per-transaction fees you want to account for. This gives you the floor underneath the service before fixed expenses enter the picture.

02

Separate fixed costs from per-client costs.

Rent, software, insurance, marketing and other overhead still need to be covered, but they behave differently from solution and disposables. Looking at both categories makes it easier to understand why a price that looks profitable per appointment can still leave the month feeling tight.

03

Price against realistic capacity.

Do not build the model around a schedule you cannot or do not want to sustain. Use the number of appointments you can realistically perform while maintaining the client experience and your own workload.

04

Use the market as context, not the formula.

Local pricing can tell you how your offer sits in the market. It cannot tell you your cost structure, desired positioning, travel time, demand or income goal. Let those inputs shape the price before comparing menus.

Questions, answered

What artists usually want to know.

Should I charge the same as other spray tan artists near me?

Competitor pricing is useful context, but it should not be the entire pricing method. Your costs, service model, positioning, capacity and included experience may be different.

How often should I review my spray tan pricing?

Review it whenever your product costs, rent, service structure or demand changes materially, and at least periodically so an old price is not quietly absorbing new expenses.
